"We Don't Need No Education"

Former schoolchildren who sang on Pink Floyd's 1979 single Another Brick in The Wall have begun action for unpaid royalties.
Royalties expert Peter Rowan said he was appealing on behalf of one former pupil and was working with others.

The 23 then teenagers from north London have been unable to claim royalties as they recorded their vocals in secret.

The single with its chorus "We Don't Need No Education" became a children's anthem and was a UK and US number one.

The album The Wall, on which the single features, sold more than 12 million copies.

1. Si Inay, tinuruan niya ako HOW TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE: "Kung kayong dalawa ay magpapatayan, doon kayo sa labas!

Schadenfreude

The Police on "Schadenfreude"

Revolver: "Message In A Bottle" is one of the band's most intense tracks. What made it work so well?

Andy Summers: I've always said it was Stewart's finest drum track, plus great guitar riffs, lyrics, the song - it was one track where everything came together. We had also just learned the trick of playing a song two or three times in a row to let the energy build, then we'd come straight in for another take with the tape still rolling.

Stewart Copeland: It was also a great way of getting the tempo up to where I like - which is really fast.

Sting: That's what he thought. We were actually trying to tire Stewart out so we could slow it down a bit.

Revolver: Lyrically, wasn't it a big step out of simple alienation when the narrator realises he's not 'alone in being alone' in the third verse?

Sting: I was always sort of proud of that, yeah. As a narrative, it had a beginning, middle and an end. The story actually developed. It wasn't just 'I'm lonely, isn't it terrible!' - which is what a lot of my other songs were about. If I'm lonely, but I realise everybody else is too. I feel better. I think the Germans call that Schadenfreude - enjoying the misery of others.

Stewart Copeland: My favourite thing about Message In A Bottle, apart from all the money we made off it, was hearing cover bands trying to play my drum parts. I'd overdubbed about six different parts, and to watch some band in a Holiday Inn struggling to play all those overdubs still gives me great joy. Now that is really Schadenfreude.

The greatest song of all time

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- "Like a Rolling Stone," Bob Dylan's scornful, ironic ode to a spoiled woman's reversal of fortune, was named the greatest rock 'n' roll song of all time on Wednesday by Rolling Stone magazine.

The six-minute opening track from his landmark 1965 album "Highway 61 Revisited" broke the barrier of the three-minute hit single and established Dylan as a mainstream pop artist, marking his transformation from folk troubadour to rock sensation.

"No other pop song has so thoroughly challenged and transformed the commercial laws and artistic conventions of its time, for all time," wrote Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke in an article accompanying the magazine's list of the top 500 rock songs of all time.

Outrage over the JFK slay video game

A British firm seeking to capitalize on the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's murder today is issuing "JFK Reloaded", a purportedly educational "docu-game" that lets players fire the fatal shots from the Texas Book Depository over and over again.

Presidential historian G. Calvin MacKenzie of Colby College said, "Aside from being in incredibly bad taste, the idea of marketing it as an educational tool seems to stretch the notion of education beyond belief."

Still the Salt of the Earth

ASIN's songs are like an old pair of boots: They're a little scuffed at the toes, a little worn down at the heels, a little cracked and creased from the mileage. But once you put them on, you remember all the places they've taken you, and you're ready to resume the journey.
